Hired in 1958 Seattle native John Gayton would become the first African American to work at the Olympia brewery He went on to become lead marketer in charge of developing the African American market. first beer advertisement by a regional brewery for Ebony Magazine, help in hiring to a sales position a Black that went on to open and become the largest Black beer distributorship in the West. Olympia Brewery with John Gayton created and used for the first time Black models in their advertising. Maya Angelou's show on PBS sponsored by Olympia in 1967 went on to be a huge success and helped her career.
